Kaveri Sankramana also known as Kaveri Changrandi is one of the 3 important festivals (Kail Poudh and Puttari being the other two) for the Kodavas. This festival celebrates the birth of river Kaveri in Kodagu and it takes place on the day of Tula Sankramana. On this day which typically falls during mid-October (mostly 17th day of the month), theertha (holy water) springs out of the Kundike (pond) at Talakaveri, the source of river Kaveri and gushes forth at the precise moment when the sun enters the Tula rasi.
