All the men then go to the village mand or to a place selected for the shooting event and shoot a target, often a coconut, that is tied high up on a tree. The first shot must be fired by the takka(headman) of the village. Thereafter, they enjoy themselves by taking part in sports such as running, dancing for the vaalaga, putting the shot etc. Traditionally women did not participate but things have been changing.
